The General Meeting of the Historical Society of Helotes, which is open to the public, will be held Tuesday, November 7, at the Gardens at Old Town Helotes at 15060 Antonio Drive from 12:00 to 2:00 pm.
Guest speaker will be Alex J. Vega IV, retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel and descendent of early Spanish settlers in Texas, who will give a presentation on “The U.S. Army on the Texas Frontier.” Lt. Col. Vega’s presentation will focus on the historical aspects of the U.S. army’s presence in frontier Texas, its long-term impact on Texas, and the historic post sites preserved today.
Vega holds a BA degree in History from Texas A&M University, College Station. A former U.S. Diplomat at the U.S Embassy in Moscow, Russia, he is fluent in Spanish, German, and Russian.
A deluxe box lunch from Jason’s Deli can be ordered at the Historical Society of Helotes website, www.historicalsocietyofhelotes.org, under the Members/Meetings tab. Members meal is $15, while guest meals are $18, with water and tea provided by the Society. The meal order is your RSVP.
