Watercolor artist Charles B. James and Texas author Cynthia Leal Massey announce the publication of “The Art of Helotes, a whimsical history tour of Old Town through paintings, architecture, and stories,” a 48-page, full-color, hardcover book, with 40 paintings.
James and Massey will host a book release party from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Gardens at Old Town Helotes at 15060 Antonio Drive, Helotes. The afternoon will feature a signing session, music, and refreshments. The public is invited to attend this free event, where they will be able to purchase copies of “The Art of Helotes,” which retails for $30, plus tax.
Published by CBJ Publishing, “The Art of Helotes” marks the first partnership between James and Massey. “Only Cynthia could genuinely bring the textual aspects of the book to life, and I am grateful that she agreed to share in this project,” said James. “This book is a beautiful collaboration that reflects our shared love of Helotes and we’re excited to share it with everyone and celebrate its launch with our friends, family, and fans. The book release party will be a fantastic way to connect with everyone who has supported us throughout this journey.”
“I am pleased to be able to continue chronicling the rich history of Helotes,” said Massey. “I’ve always had an affinity for art, and Charles’ paintings are so indicative of the feeling of Old Town that I had to participate.”
“The Art of Helotes” promises to captivate readers with its rich history. James’ watercolor illustrations complement Massey’s engaging stories of the people, businesses, and events of Old Town’s past and present. According to Donald Darst, national award-winning artist and a founding partner of the Helotes Gallery, the “Beautiful paintings of Old Town architecture and the fascinating historical perspective of each building make this book enjoyable both as a resource and a collection of art.”
The artist and author will also participate in book signing events at the Helotes Gallery on Friday, November 1, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, and at the Historical Society of Helotes General Meeting at the Gardens at Old Town, on Tuesday, November 5, where they will give a presentation at 1:00 pm.
