Helotes News LLC is locally owned and operated by Matthew McCrossen. Matt has served on Helotes City Council and the Helotes Economic Development Corporation’s board of directors. Matt’s previous community service includes HOA board president, City of San Antonio District 8 appointee and chairman of the Small Business Advocacy Committee, and vice president of the Vance Jackson Neighborhood Association. He graduated from St. Mary’s University with a BBA Applied Management Cum Laude. Matt earned an Associates of Applied Science in Intelligence Operations from Cochise College while serving in the U.S. Army on active duty. His active duty Army service was from 2000 to 2009 and included four tours in Iraq.

Jen Sones

Independent Journalist

Jen Sones serves as an independent journalist with Helotes News. She holds a communications degree from a liberal arts college in Indiana and was a managing editor of a trade publication in Washington, DC. While stationed in Hawaii with her active-duty husband, she served as a senior account representative at an advertising/public relations agency in Honolulu. Later she stepped away from her career to focus on frequent military moves and homeschool for their four children. Jen and her family now call Helotes home after her husband retired from 28 years on active duty. Currently she serves as place two on Helotes City Council.

Annie McEntire

Photo Journalist

Annie McEntire is a Freelance Photo Journalist and a Wildlife and Nature photographer who loves capturing the everyday life in ways others never see due to our busy technological world we live in. Her work has been used by many local businesses and websites all over the country. Annie was born in Orange County and grew up in Los Angeles. As a child, Annie states, “I was surrounded by family who taught me to think outside the box and see the world differently. My grandmother was a child prodigy and pianist. My aunt is a well known artist in California and my mother is a poet/writer who taught me to see the beautiful details of life! She moved to the Texas hill country 22 years ago where she married into the McEntire family spanning four generations in Grey Forest and Helotes. Annie’s work is represented by The Helotes Gallery, located in Old Town Helotes on Bandera Rd. Sabrina McGowan

Independent Journalist

Sabrina McGowan is an independent journalist for Helotes News. She also brings a wealth of writing and editorial expertise and enthusiasm to small businesses and nonprofit organizations as the owner of SQM Communications. A Helotes native, Sabrina began her career in public broadcasting at KLRN-TV, where she learned the importance of managing various communication projects, establishing solid relationships, and enhancing community involvement. That experience led her to more opportunities in San Antonio, Dallas, and Washington, DC, where she managed communication and PR strategies for national law firms, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies. Sabrina and her husband, Patrick, returned to Helotes in 2020 and now live in the home where she grew up. She is a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio.
