September 2024 General Meeting of the Historical Society of Helotes Announcement

The General Meeting of the Historical Society of Helotes will be held Tuesday, September 10, at the Gardens at Old Town Helotes at 15060 Antonio Drive from 12:00 to 2:00 pm. Rhonda Minten, M.A., Assistant History Professor, UTSA, will give a presentation titled, “Reading Between the Lines of History; A Texas Woman’s Personal Journal Through the Civil War.”

This presentation about women in the Civil War will focus on San Antonian Anita Dwyer Withers. At the start of the war, she was a young wife and new mother. Her husband was an officer in the United States Military. Her compelling story, from a journal account that is included in the book Minten co-edited, Living on the Edge: Texas During the Civil War and Reconstruction, documents her personal experiences during this turbulent, uncertain time.

A deluxe box lunch from Jason’s Deli can be ordered online at the Historical Society of Helotes website under the Meetings tab. Member cost is $15, guests $18. Order from five menu items.

The meal order is your RSVP. If you are not going to order a meal, but plan to attend, please email [email protected] to RSVP. Reservation/meal order must be made by September 8. Guests who do not order a meal are asked to donate $5 at the door.

This meeting is open to the public.
