Helotes business owner and resident Ken Dempsey saw the need for a food and family venue in Old Town Helotes and started researching the project over a year ago. He looked at almost a dozen locations in South Texas to determine which attractions and amenities would work best in Helotes.
“I envisioned creating a park where families can gather,” said Dempsey. “I also wanted to include a bar with a patio where adults could visit with friends and neighbors.”
The family fun park will sit on an acre tract adjacent to the wedding venue at the Gardens at Old Town Helotes. A 7-foot wall will be constructed to separate the properties.
The food trucks will have the option of making the park a permanent or temporary location. Dempsey’s plan will tie the water and septic for the bar and restroom to each food truck pad allowing for a food truck to make the park its permanent location.
To keep the area looking fresh in the dry Texas summers and free of mud when it rains, the park will use 6,000 square feet of synthetic grass that will extend to the putting green.
Dempsey anticipates breaking ground later this month and plans to open the park in June.
